Learn what stone wool is, how it works, and how its unique properties support precision growing in commercial cannabis cultivation.
Stone wool, also known as rock wool, is a soilless growing medium made from volcanic rock and chalk. Grodan transforms these natural materials into a lightweight, porous, and inert substrate with a uniform fiber structure.
For commercial cannabis growers, this consistency allows for more precise irrigation and root-zone management.

Stone wool's fiber structure creates space for both water and air. Understanding how these interact helps growers maintain the conditions needed for healthy root development.
From propagation through flowering and ripening, growers adjust irrigation strategies and root-zone conditions to meet the changing needs of their crop.
Grodan's 5-Phase Model provides a structured framework with phase-specific objectives and crop-steering guidance for cannabis cultivation in large blocks using a one-transplant system.
Explore the 5-Phase Model below.
Effective irrigation management starts with understanding what's happening in the root zone. Four key factors help growers monitor conditions and make informed crop-steering decisions.
