Grodan launches Max Plugs in North America to help cannabis growers maximize usable transplants
New propagation solution combines fast, uniform root development with greater irrigation control and flexibility
Milton, ON, Canada – August 31, 2026 – Grodan, a leading specialist in stone wool growing media, today announced the North American launch of Grodan Max Plugs, a premium propagation solution developed to help commercial cannabis growers maximize the number of healthy, usable transplants from every propagation batch.
Propagation is a critical first step in the cultivation cycle. Variability in rooting or irrigation can affect transplant timing, increase sorting and grading, and ultimately reduce the value growers capture from their genetics, labor, materials and propagation space.
Grodan Max Plugs are designed to address these challenges by combining fast and highly uniform root development with greater irrigation control and flexibility. The result is more predictable propagation performance and a higher number of healthy plants progressing toward transplant readiness together.
More uniform plants, ready sooner
Grodan Max Plugs support initial root strike in as few as eight days under optimal conditions while maintaining a controlled dry-back. Uniform water distribution and a balanced air-to-water ratio create consistent rooting conditions throughout the plug, supporting fast and equal root development across a propagation batch.
In trials, Grodan Max Plugs demonstrated root development up to two days earlier than standard A-OK and delivered the highest number of usable plants for transplant.
Greater uniformity can also bring operational benefits. When more plants reach transplant readiness within the same window, growers can reduce crop variability and the need for sorting and grading, support more predictable transplant scheduling and potentially shorten propagation cycles.
Greater control over irrigation
Grodan Max Plugs also give propagators greater flexibility in managing irrigation during the critical early stages of plant development.
High water-holding capacity, uniform water distribution and controlled, predictable dry-back support a delayed first irrigation and lower irrigation frequency while maintaining the moisture and oxygen conditions required for healthy root development.
This creates a larger irrigation window and can reduce the number of irrigation interventions required during propagation, with the potential to reduce associated labor as well as water and nutrient use.
Grodan Max Technology engineered for propagation performance
Grodan Max is engineered for growers who demand maximum control over their root zone. Through the optimization of substrate design and manufacturing processes, Grodan Max delivers exceptional re-saturation and water-distribution characteristics giving growers precise control over WC and EC. This enables fast, uniform root establishment and a more consistent response to crop-steering inputs, supporting highly uniform crop development, improved yield performance, and consistent quality.
By creating a more predictable root-zone environment from the beginning of the crop cycle, Grodan Max Plugs help growers combine strong agronomic performance with greater operational consistency.
Proven Grodan Max technology, now coming to North America
Grodan Max is already used by commercial cannabis growers in Europe and other markets seeking greater precision and control throughout the crop cycle.
The introduction of Grodan Max Plugs extends the Grodan Max portfolio to North American propagation, giving commercial cannabis growers access to a premium propagation solution backed by Grodan’s technical expertise and crop advisory support.
Grodan Max Plugs will begin shipping to distributors in the United States and Canada on August 31, 2026, with customer availability expected during September.
Commercial growers interested in Grodan Max Plugs can contact their local Grodan representative for information on availability and how Grodan Max can support their propagation strategy.
