What is the generative stage?
Shift plant growth from vegetative development toward reproductive growth and flower formation.
The generative stage is where the crop transitions from building vegetative structure to directing more energy toward reproductive development. During this stage, growers use crop steering to manage plant stretch, canopy structure, root-zone conditions and nutrition while encouraging the establishment of uniform flower sites.
In the Grodan 5-Phase Model in Large Blocks, this stage aligns with Phase 3: Flower Setting, which typically lasts about 21 days, or weeks 1 through 3 of flower. The phase begins when plants have developed enough leaf area and vegetative tissue to support flowering and the photoperiod is shifted to induce flower. It ends when flower sites are established across the plant, pistils are fully emerged, and internode and shoot elongation have largely stopped.
